The School of Higher Nursing was established in the year 1956 by the Ministry of Health in association with the World Health Organisation(WHO). Its objective was to train High School graduates (girls) as qualified nurses and help upgrade the nursing profession in the Sudan.
It joined the Ministry of Higher Education in the year 1974. It awarded a Diploma after a course of study extending for 3 years.
In the year 1994, the School of Higher Nursing joined the University of Khartoum under the Dean-ship of the Faculty of Medicine, and the syllabus was modified and the duration of study became four years.
The School of Higher Nursing offers courses for first degrees leading to the following qualification:
