The Sudan Research Unit was developed to the department of African and Asian Studies in the Faculty of Arts.
In the year 1972 this department was seperated from the Faculty of Arts to become the Institute of African and Asian Studies.
The Institute offers the following studies leading to:
1- Diploma, Master & Ph. D. in African and Asian Studies.
2- Diploma, Master & Ph. D. in folklore studies.
3- Diploma, Master & Ph. D. in Sudanese and African Languages.
4- Diploma in Zulu & Husa Languages.
