Definitions:

The following words and expressions, listed alphabatically, shall have the meanings assigned to them hereunder:

'Academic Secretary' means the officer responsible, under the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and through him to the Vice-Chancellor, for the proper performance of the general administration of the University's academic affairs.

'Academic Staff' includes Professors, Senior Lecturers, Lecturers, Librarian and his assistants.

'Chancellor' means the Chancellor of the University mentioned in the Act of the University.

'Committee' means the Financial Committee constituted under the Act of the University.

'Council' means the Council of the University constituted under the Act of the University.

'Dean' means the officer responsible, under the Vice-Chancellor, for the administration and discipline of his faculty as prescribed in the Statutes.

'Department'means a teaching or research unit or any other unit recognized by the Council in accordance with the statutes as having a separate departmental status.

'Deputy Vice-Chancellor' means the Deputy Vice-Chancellor appointed by the Chancellor under the Act of the University.

'Faculty'means an academic unit within the University created by the Council under the Act of the University.

'Graduate'means a person upon whom the Senate has conferred a degree in the name of the University and shall include a person who holds a diploma from the Kitchener School of Medicine, the Gordon's Memorial College, such other schools as existed in the Sudan before 1946, or the University College of Khartoum.

'Head of the Council' means the Head of the University Council appointed under the Act of the University

'Institute or Center' means a unit, dependent or independent on a faculty, constructed by the Council for teaching, research or training, under the Act of the University,

'Librarian'means the officer responsible, under the Vice-Chancellor, for the care and maintenance of the Library of the University.

'Minister' means the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

'National Council' means the National Council of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

'Regulations' means the regulations made by the Senate under the Act of the University.

'School' means an independent academic unit within the University created by the Council, for teaching or research, under the Act of the University.

'Senate' means the Senate of University constituted under the Act of the University.

'Statutes' means the Statutes made by the Council under the Act of the University.

'Student' means any person registered for a full-time course for a degree, diploma, or a certificate awarded by the University

'Students' Dean' means the Students' Dean appointed under the Act of the University.

'Students' Union' means the Student Union of the University of Khartoum (KUSU)

'Sub-Academic Staff' includes Demonstrators, Research Assistants and such other persons as the Council may from time to time prescribe.

'Teaching Assistants' means the Academic-Staff assistants and Research assistants.

'University' means the University of Khartoum

'University Hospital' means the Hospital recognized by the Council.

'Vice-Chancellor' means the Vice-Chancellor appointed by the Chancellor under the Act of the University.
