No Merger Between the Democratic Forum and the so-called South Sudan Democratic Front

(Press Release): South Sudan Democratic Form/USA
Date: September 25th, 2007

The Democratic Forum Denounces the Neo-tribalists: No Merger Between the Democratic Forum and the so-called South Sudan Democratic Front

It has come to the attention of the National Leadership Council (NLC) of the South Sudan Democratic Forum-Mainstream via media that certain individuals have alleged a merger between the Democratic Forum and the South Sudan United Democratic Alliance aimed at the creation of a new political crowd that would work to undermine the Government of South Sudan (GOSS) and the political transformation that’s taking place in the country as was conspicuously stated by Mr. David de Chand, the leader of the new crowd.

The South Sudan Democratic Forum is informing the Sudanese people, for the most part, the people of South Sudan, that no merger has taken place between the Democratic Forum and any other political party. A fusion between the Democratic Forum with any other political party in the country, for that matter, shall be based on principles of peace, justice, equality, and freedom for the people of South Sudan. The Democratic Forum shall not align itself with people of restricted vision and those who are detested by their own communities to create unnecessary confusions. The Democratic Forum shall continue to advocate for peace, unity, security and honest governance in South Sudan.

In previous the press releases the Democratic Forum adamantly dissociated and therefore, dismissed Mr. Gordon Buay Reath and Dr. Koang Gatluak from the membership of the party for their engagement in dour associations with individuals in the north who are acutely blinded by revulsion and chauvinism for anything that comes out of South Sudan. Their ultimate end is nothing but to see the collapse of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement signed between the South, represented by the Sudan People’s Liberation Army/Movement (SPLA/M) and the North, represented by the National Congress Party (NCP). The CPA is an agreement worth protecting because it embodied all the aspirations of the people of Sudan and the South Sudanese in particular. Nevertheless, it is a democratic right for any individual to associate or join any political confederacy of their choosing; it is fraudulent to speak on behalf of a recognizable political party and people without any mandate, as the two said individuals!

The Democratic Forum is a party with organs in the Sudan, East Africa, Europe, North America and Australia, and are the sole legitimate representatives of the party who are mandated to conduct the daily political business of the party. Anyone who makes illicit statements in the name of Democratic Forum is considered phony and people are asked not to deal with such person. It is equally immoral to speak on behalf of a tribe and associate a political grouping with it, as Mr. de Chand has done so in more than an occasion. For those who followed the rabble-rousing rhetoric of Mr. David de Chand, leader of the new crowd, on Algaziera satellite channel, it leaves no uncertainties that the

de Chand’s benefactors are indomitable to destabilizing the South by proxy. We call on such individuals to must not be trapped in the pass for our patriotism must override our own egos. The signatories of Khartoum and Fashoda peace agreements, Drs Riek Machar and Lam Akol have moved-on: Mr. David de Chand who was just a junior member of Dr. Riek’s Faction must also move on and forget about the bitterness of the pass. The CPA is not an extension of these two agreements, if there is a brain to discern the difference.

The Democratic Forum reminds the renegades that the need for the unity of the people South Sudan was the foremost reason behind the formation of the party in 2001. Bearing this dignified cause in mind, many other philosophies were developed and among which, the South-South dialogue that has become “the model” for resolving our country’s racial and ethnic conflicts, and the regions military disputes. It is these splendid and mature approaches to politics that distinguished our party from other Sudanese political parties and together we shall win.

We therefore, call on the people of Sudan (North and South) to watch closely the wolves in cheep cloths and choose stability over chaos, progress over backwardness. The South Sudanese people must protect the CPA from tribalists and shortsighted bigots.
