![]() Prime Minister/Head of State, 30 October 1964 - 8 July, 1965 Sir Al-Khatim Khalifa - (1919 - ) - A Sudanese political leader. Born in Al-Dueim, Sudan, he studied in Gordon Memorial College (1937), then moved to Britain and continued his education at Exeter College Oxford University (1944 - 1946). He worked in the field of education, working as a Teacher in Bakht Errida Training Institute (1938-1944) Then was appointed as Education Inspector at Juba, responsibilities included introduction of Arabic in the Southern Sudan Education System (1950 - 1957). Then moved to be the assistant Director of Education for the Southern regions of Sudan. He was appointed Deputy Under Secretary, Ministry of Education (1964). Became Prime Minister (Oct. 1964 - July 1965) and was chosen by the Proffesionals Front to form a transitional government which was entrusted of organizing elections. After the elections and assumption of power by political parties, he was appointed ambassador to Italy, he assumed that post till 1969 when he was removed by Numeiry's government. In 1973 Numeiry appointed him minister of education. He was later removed from the Minister of Education and appointed as an advisor to the president of the republic on educational affairs. He held that post till 1985, until Numeiry's government was toppled by General Abdul Rahman Siwar Al-Dhab. |
