New Archaeological Discoveries in Wad Banaga Area

Khartoum - Minister of Antiquities, Tourism and Wildlife, Engineer Abdul Karim Al-Hud announced the discovery of new temple and palace of Meroitic Queen, Amanitore at Wad Banaga area, River Nile State.

The minister said, in statement to Sudan Vision, that the finder of the discoveries is from the mission of the Czech Republic. He said that this is the first discovery to the Queen Amanitore away from the kingdom located in Bijrawiya. Al-Hud revealed the beginning of work on the Sudanese - Qatari project, which aims at restoration and maintenance of monuments, funding of missions and establishment of new museums funding worth $135 million. He indicated that the budget of this year is estimated at $ 42 million. He said that the work on this project aimed at restoration of 100 pyramids in the Northern and River Nile states, maintenance of the National Museum of Sudan and establishment of two new museums at Naqaa and Mosawarat area, in addition to funding 27 research units for exploration of archeology in the states. 

 


He said that the work will be done by qualified team of a number of universities in America, Europe, Russia and a number of other states, expecting this work to continue to include a number of other states of Sudan. Al-Hud pointed to the ministry's efforts to increase the amount of this grant to include a number of areas that need rehabilitation to implement the ministry plan, which aims to establish museums in all the states.
