Health Ministry Concerned over Migration of Doctors Sudan Vision - March 18
Khartoum - Sudanese Ministry of Health expressed concern over the migration of health workers to the Arab countries, especially after statistics showed that three thousand doctors migrate annually.
About 94,230 Sudanese have migrated from the country in 2012, compared to 10032 in 2008.
The number of immigrants from doctors reached about 5028 during the recent period, while the number of immigrants from education professions has reached about 1002 teachers during the past year.
The Minister of Health, Bahr Idris Abu Garda indicated at a briefing that following his participation in the meeting of Arab health ministers, which was held in Cairo, the intention of the Ministry to hold a special seminar to discuss and address the issue of migration of health workers.
Abu Garda said that they are working on the protection of medical cadres through memorandums of understanding and bilateral agreements with other countries.
Minister of Health announced that the Secretary-General of the Arab League was allocated some money from the Arab Fund for Health Development to support humanitarian work in Darfur, through participation in the donors' conference to be held next April in the Qatari capital, Doha.
The Secretary General asked the Sudanese Ministry of Health to propose a specific amount to be submitted prior to the conference.
