Khartoum - The Director of the Department of Plant Protection at the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, Khidir Jibreel, has announced the full eradication of locust and freeness of the country from this disaster, stressing that all the teams have finished ground control operations.

Jibreel said in press statements Sunday that all the aircrafts operating in the field of control are still existing in their locations where five planes have been distributed for the Northern State, one aircraft to the River Nile State and the other to the Red Sea State, adding that a number of vehicles where allotted to combat few locust swarms.

Gabreel explained that the losses in the agricultural areas did not exceed 1%, referring to the need for participation and cooperation of the citizens in the locust combating operations.

He pointed out that the agricultural season is promising high productivity of wheat.

The Director of the Department of Plant Protection revealed that the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) recently responded to the call of his administration for support to combat locusts, after the protest expressed by the department to the organization in this regard.
