Khartoum – MP Abdallah Babikir Mohamed, who headed a parliamentary delegation to the Northern State where desert locusts invaded seven localities, urged speedy action on the part of the central government to assist the State to control the swarms. 

In an exclusive statement to Sudan Vision, the MP said the colour of the locusts is turning yellow, a serious indication, according to experts. 

He called on the Ministers of Agriculture and Finance to provide necessary support to control desert locusts in the northern state. He said the swarms are apparently moving towards the River Nile State, stressing the need for urgent intervention to clear the state of the pests. 

 

He said upon arrival they met with the governor of the state and the chairman of the legislative assembly where they discussed the need for aerial spraying, adding that 160 barrels of plane fuel were delivered to various localities. 

He said the support from the central government to combat locusts is weak, urging speedy efforts to deter the problem before it is too late. He said the state did its part within the limit of its capabilities but it could not control the locusts.
