He explained that the ministry intends to develop a special law and standards and specifications for the production and use of food, medical and otherwise, to eliminate the negative reactions accompanying the promotion of moringa extracts.
He said that Sudan will host, at the end of next March, a specialised international workshop on the benefits of moringa in its economic, health and food dimensions for people and animals. The minister stressed that the global market is open to these products, noting the importance of adhering to the specifications of production for domestic consumption and export.
For his part, the representative of the Standardisation and Metrology Organisation revealed their intention to organise awareness campaigns in various markets and to take samples of moringa products from shops for analysis through microscopic examination.
He said there is some fraud practiced by some people who mix moringa leaves with clover and other plants. He stressed the need to develop necessary specifications for various uses.
He said their organisation is currently working on issuing the required specifications for the tree’s uses.
