Sudan to Get $10 Million from Moringa Exports

Sudan to Get $10 Million from Moringa Exports
Sudan Vision -  February 05
Khartoum – The minister of science and communications, Dr. Issa Bushra said that Sudan will achieve more than $10 million from Moringa Olefera exports this year. Sudan will also benefit from the tree’s use expanding into animal feed to increase meat and dairy production.

"We seek to increase the storage period of the oils from three months to twenty-four months by mixing oils—taking 5% moringa oil and the rest from other kinds of vegetable oils," the minister said.

He explained that the ministry intends to develop a special law and standards and specifications for the production and use of food, medical and otherwise, to eliminate the negative reactions accompanying the promotion of moringa extracts.

He said that Sudan will host, at the end of next March, a specialised international workshop on the benefits of moringa in its economic, health and food dimensions for people and animals. The minister stressed that the global market is open to these products, noting the importance of adhering to the specifications of production for domestic consumption and export.

For his part, the representative of the Standardisation and Metrology Organisation revealed their intention to organise awareness campaigns in various markets and to take samples of moringa products from shops for analysis through microscopic examination.

He said there is some fraud practiced by some people who mix moringa leaves with clover and other plants.
He stressed the need to develop necessary specifications for various uses.

He said their organisation is currently working on issuing the required specifications for the tree’s uses.
