International Demand on Sudanese Meat Growing Sudan Vision - January 21
Khartoum - The increasing international demand for Sudanese meats requires investors and producers to enter and improve performance in animal resources sector by introducing modern technologies at all stages of productions, the chairman of Herders Union Al-Omdah Saad Osman said.
In an interview to the paper, Osman said all the Gulf States are demanding Sudanese meat including Egypt, Jordon and Libya, pointing out that European and African countries have begun to compete for Sudanese meats.
The chairman of Herders Union Osman underlined the importance of vaccinating national cattle as key to quality and competitive animal products, adding that the Union is committed to supplying vaccines and all facilities to all states of Sudan.
He said that the government recent instruction to open pastoral routes and separating pastures from agricultural schemes shows the country’s care for this vital sector of animal resources.
However, Osman explained that the real problem of animal production lies in hiking prices of fodder, poor productivity and shortage of rains, which compelled farmers to rely on manufactured fodder, which in turn caused prices to hike.
As a result, he recommended caring about quality production and shifting from traditional to modern means along with setting up a plan for stabilizing herders and nomads around development projects and establishing pastoral farms to provide basic infrastructures to meet settlers’ needs.
