Central African Soldiers patrol a street in Bangui as capital fears rebel attack
Sudan evacuates nationals from Bangui PANA - January 02
Sudan has evacuated its nationals from Bangui, capital of the Central African Republic (CAR), which has been under a rebel siege, the state-run Radio of Omdurman reported on Wednesday. The radio station said the Sudanese Government evacuated its nationals and other persons following the deterioration of the security situation in the country, the station quoted Col. Sawarmi Khalid Saad, spokesman of the Sudanese Armed forces (SAF) as saying.
He said that in a close coordination between the Sudanese Ministries of Defence and Foreign Affairs, a special plane was sent to Bangui after CAR rebels reached the centre of the city and airlifted 43 Sudanese nationals and a number of Egyptians, Yemenis, Chadians and Central Africans to Khartoum Airbase late on Tuesday.
Saad said Sudan was closely following developments in CAR, in view of the close ties between Khartoum and Bangui.
