Embassy of Sudan, London statement on Anti-Islam Film

Anti-Islam Film
Sudanese Muslims are shocked and outraged by the anti-Muslim film “Innocence of Muslims”.  The film does not come out of the blue.  It is a culmination of cartoons, far-right publications, demonstrations, burning of the Quran, laws and rhetoric against multiculturalism and Muslims in the diaspora.

It is important to note that the film was not produced or directed by an official government authority.  As such, our fury should only be channeled towards the perpetrators not at random..
The film is the result of either ignorance or prejudice or both.  The man behind it is an “ex-convict and bank fraudster”.

The best way to counter his film and similar action is to explain to the world patiently, the true essence of our religion and our prophet (S.A.A Wassalam).

We repeat today what we have written when a US pastor threatened to burn the Quran last year:
Tolerance and coexistence were the words underpinning Prophet Mohamed’s attitude towards other faiths and communities.  Those who vilify Prophet Mohamed (S.A.A. Wassalam) should read the verses of the Quran, revealed to the Prophet, stating that no Muslim can be a believer if he/she does not recognise both Jesus and Moses as prophets of Allah.  Christians should be reminded of Surat Mariam with its spellbinding description of the virgin birth of Jesus Christ.  Non Muslims should be made aware of the Quran verses: “there is no compulsion in religion”.  Jews should be reminded of the suras that exonerates Jews of the murder of Christ and state that his look-alike has actually been killed.

The prophet considered himself a messenger to ALL races and ethnic groups, regardless of colour or geographical location.  He repeated: “The benchmark that elevates an Arab or a non-Arab is piety, nothing else”.  He also said: “He who hurts a Dhimmi (i.e. Christian or Jew) hurts me.”
Prophet Mohamed had a coptic Christian wife Maria, and a Jewish wife Safiyya.  Many present day lofty, progressive and humane causes were championed by him.  His love of animals was legendary.

He told his disciples that a woman who starved her cat would be punished in the hereafter and that a man who saved a thirsty dog would be rewarded.  His close disciple “Abu Huraira” whose name means “the kitten owner” had a cat that was given to him by the prophet himself – He is known in Islamic history by this nickname only and is considered one of the most reliable chroniclers of the prophet’s speeches and behaviour.

Amnesty was one of the Prophet’s traits.  When he entered Mecca as a conqueror, those who persecuted and expelled him and his disciples were worried.  When he spoke to them, he said: “Go-you are free.”

Prophet Mohamed was interested in poetry and had a favourite poet Hassaan Ibn Thabit.  He encouraged his wife Ayesha to watch the dances of Ethiopians in Mecca and was interested in DAF music during bridal ceremonies.  He also encouraged the melodious musical recitation of the Quran.

He encouraged democratic behaviour and consulted his disciples.  There are several occasions in which his disciples asked about a certain course of action: “Is this a heavenly revelation?” when he said no they suggested an alternative idea which he duly accepted.

Prophet Mohamed (S.A.A. Wassalam) was a family man who respected women.  He said: “The best of you are those who are good to their wives”.  He advised a man three times that his priority is to look after his mother.

Our fury is justified against this film; but it should be channeled legally towards the culprits not blindly or haphazardly; the most effective defence of the prophet would be to develop our countries, master science and technology and be worthy of a great leader, prophet and human beings.

The Sudanese government has denounced the un-Sudanese and un-Islamic behaviour of those who attacked the British embassy in Khartoum on Friday 14 September 2012 causing minor damage to the reception area. All embassy staff are safe and healthy.

Diplomatic missions and envoys are our honoured guests who should be protected and helped in line with our traditions and religious duty.
