The Talk-show moderator Mr. Kuon denied public including myself access to interact with his guests whose two representatives did not either know the role of the opposition parties or intentionally misled the entire public. Yien Thieng of the SPLM-DC, a party that was based in Khartoum, many claimed to have a full support from National Congress Party [NCP]. The head of SPLM-DC Dr. Lam Akol Ajawin who was an icon in the National Liberation Council defected from SPLM to establish his own Government which later on descended to make an opposition political party registered as SPLM-DC.
On the other hand, Dr. Stain Jada represented South Sudan Democratic Forum [SSDF]; it was very irritating to me and all others who truly understand the role of the opposition parties in a democratized state like South Sudan and many others. when the later stressed that , “The Independence of the Republic of South Sudan was brought by the citizens alone NOT the SPLM” Mr. Jada further said, our political ground is not leveled, we are restricted to hold political rallies, we are harassed, tortured and arrested at the countryside when there is a rally carried out by the opposition parties. This is misleading and a blame-game characterized by lack of political dispensation. Who on earth will ever campaign for your popularity? Yet your parties dwell on gossips, lies and incitation, SPLM got its fame during the war of liberation.
The ruling party and all other political parties have the rights to share any political space availed to them by democracy, including the citizen’s choices to join or defect to other parties. There hasn’t been a case of a Southern-base political party that has been harassed which I have ever earmarked, except an attempt to deny SPLM-DC a registration at one point which was revoked later, but that was in order because SPLM-DC was suspected for insecurity and instability in Western Upper Nile and Jonglei State, yet its base was Khartoum. While Dr. Stain Jada of SSDF tries to mislead the entire globe, his intellects and political strength to compete in a democratized South Sudan was questioned.
Political opposition parties might have some challenges in relations to mass mobilization, However, they should consider that South Sudanese have just come out from the war which was fought by the same party SPLM/A and this party had a slogan used to foster unity and solidarity to entire citizens, it is this methodology employed by the SPLM to defeat other emerging political parties in the South. It has less to helping reform a country which has been ravaged and devastated by civil war if politicians who acquire” chicken politics” in foreign countries do expect a smooth political grounds overnight, even Sudan People Liberation Army did not draw immediate massive support for the first six years but it did not propagate neither had it given up in the campaign for liberation struggle.
The 1991 SPLA split has so many titles of uselessness, some say, 1991 mutiny, others called it Nasir Faction.SPLM-DC Director of administration and Finance Mr. Yien Thieng said “SPLM as the ruling party did not contribute to the separation of South Sudan, but it was the choice of the citizens to push for self determination, SPLM’s primary objective was to liberate the whole Sudan and re-name it as New Sudan”. That was why there was a split in 1991 he added. What image does this political party intend and reflect to its citizens, has this party a future to dream for massive support? I am one among the people who love and respect the leader of SPLM-DC Dr. Lam Akol for his diplomatic records during the SPLM/A desperate search for International support; however, this SPLM-DC is challenging his ability because he formed it out of anger and curiosity. It was not so long ago that the SPLM/A was formed there are still remnants [veterans] licking at their wounds, skulls unhealed and others on bandages, comrade Yien Thieng should differentiate between Story and History, he and the opposition parties may change” stories” that are involved in the liberation struggle but may not alternate the” History” of the movement . New or not South Sudan was the idea behind the liberation struggle and all form of sacrifices made are worthy.
Early this year, I wrote an article about political parties and it was titled as” Lick your own wounds, South Sudan Opposition parties”. I strongly condemned the opposition parties for walking out from the Transition Constitutional Review, which move gave chances to SPLM as the ruling party to amend this document into their interest. I have been working in the Legislative Assembly known as august house for the last two years but none member of the opposition party has ever tabled a private Bill for deliberation, yet this is a platform where you share a ground depending on how you defend your bill, do you still blame the ruling party for this? Let’s be honest.
This country shall be developed and led by those who are realistic and reliable, it would be better to have a monarchial system rather than having so many political parties that are divided along their ethnical backgrounds, opposition parties that contradict and belief in unproductive propaganda. It would be meaningless and undesirable for opposition parties to develop grudges that are so personal for this shall derail the reality of guarding public interests from the possible minority, therefore, opposition must not oppose any move from the ruling party because they are given an opposition funds from other countries which claim democracy. For all times when the South Sudan opposition political parties oppose any reality, all efforts made for growth and development will be like climbing an elevator descending.
