Press Statement by SPLM-DC on the arrest of its Members
SPLM-DC -  July 08

people of Sudan and South Sudan.

SPLM-DC in its Endeavour to participate in the celebrations for the independence of South- Sudan that will ensue on Saturday 9/7/2011 had moved the General Secretariat to Juba last week.

The party held a press conference in juba at 11:00am this morning to launch the participation of the party.
To our surprise, at 5:00pm Police Security stormed the SPLM-DC HQs in Juba arresting the Deputy Chairman Mr. Thomson Thoun Teny and Hon. Onyoti Adigo Nyikwac the leader of opposition in SSLA and taking them to an unknown destination.

We regret and strongly condemn such an action from the SPLM/A at the eve of independence when all should be rejoicing without exception.

It appears that it is a systematic plan of mass arrests of SPLM-DC members to prevent them from the celebrations.  There are wide spread arrests especially in upper Nile State.  Last night, the Chairman of SPLM-DC in Fashoda County Tong Otwong Ding was arrested in Kodok.  Today 7/7/2011 three members of SPLM-DC were also arrested in Wadakona in Manyo County and they Mr. Opaki Bol, John Ogwat and Andrew Odhiang.
